Welcome to BarkControlCollars-4Less.com! BARK CONTROL COLLARS TRAINING |
I. Introduction
Before training can begin, the dog must first be introduced to the bark control collar while it is deactivated. Doing this prior to training will prevent the dog from resenting the collar. Otherwise, training will be very difficult if the dog is cowering or fleeing from having the collar put on. Introducing the dog to the collar will take two days. After the dog is comfortable with the new collar, actual training can begin. Familiarize the dog with the bark control device by doing the following steps:
Day One
- Select a small food reward that the dog enjoys and will accept every time.
- Place the control bark collar around the dog's neck for about 2 to 3 hours.
- The collar must be fitted in the same fashion that it will be during training. Check the operations manual to ensure the collar is fitted properly. Reward the dog with a treat after the collar has been worn for a while. Repeat this reward several times while the dog is wearing the collar.
Day Two
Repeat day one’s procedures for over a 5 to 6 hour period.
Day Three
It is at this point the dog should be accustom to wearing the collar. This will be the first that the dog will experience the harmless static correction.
II. Training
It is very important in the early stages of training that you are selective about the environment and the owner must be present. In order for training to be effective, there must not be any distractions. If there are too many factors for the dog to be distracted by, then the dog may interpret the presence of a stranger or even the television as the cause for the corrective pulse. And since the corrective pulse will startle the dog at first, having the owner present will assure the dog that everything is okay. Only after the dog makes the connection between the barking and the corrective response, can you go to the next phase of training. The next step is putting the dog in situations that he or she would previously bark excessively, but it is your desire that they be quiet.
III. Expectations
After training, it will still be necessary for the dog to continue to wear the bark control collar in the situations you do not want the dog to bark. The dog will have learned that it is when the collar is on, that they are in a situation they are not to bark in. Teaching the dog to know which situations are acceptable and which are not is nearly impossible. Barking is a natural form of communication for a dog and they will “test” their boundaries. It is also impossible to consider every possible situation that the dog may encounter, as new situations will present themselves. Teaching the dog to stop barking at the mail man is one thing, but teaching the dog not to bark at a dog they have never seen before or a squirrel in the window is another. However, keeping the collar on in the events you do not want the dog to bark in will prevent any setbacks in the training.
